This old-world apothecary has been brimming with traditional aromatic fragrances, grooming
products, soaps and body essentials for nearly three centuries. Believed to be the fourth oldest company in America, Caswell-Massey was born in the bustling seaport of Newport, Rhode Island when Dr. William Hunter founded an apothecary shop selling medical supplies. During the company's first 150 years, the apothecary changed owners in the simple tradition of each retiring pharmacist handing over the keys. In 1833, John Rose Caswell, a Newport, RI merchant joined the business and in 1876 partnered with New York City businessman, William Massey, to open a store in New York and renamed the company Caswell-Massey.
Caswell-Massey's sophisticated products have been cherished since the American Revolution by a diversity of fans from White House first families to Hollywood Icons. Caswell-Massey's Number Six Cologne was a favorite of George Washington and Ronald Reagan, Almond Cold Cream Soap was a favorite of President Dwight Eisenhower and President John Kennedy was a fan of Jockey Club Cologne.
Since its introduction several years ago, Caswell-Massey's Elixir of Love No. 1 has received a response of unparalleled enthusiasm from users. Its soft blend of Jasmine, Lavender, Egyptian Musk and Passionflower with a secret herbaceous ingredient creates a beguiling web of scent.
